Hello Everyone,
I have an exciting new update. The yearly Passover celebration will be happening this year, although, a little different! This year we will be Livestreaming the Passover from our home in Olds. This means that each of you can join in from the comfort of your own homes!

WHAT IS THE PASSOVER?

The Passover is a Jewish Celebration that praises God's great mercy in delivering them from the tenth plague in Egypt. When the Spirit of Death passed over the homes of those who had followed God's instructions and placed lambs blood on their doorways protecting all firstborn children from death (not just young people either, the verse specifically states the firstborn so if you were the firstborn in your seventies you may have also died-Exodus 11)! On that day every year after the Israelites had a feast in which they would remember the trials they have been through and how GOD has pulled them through.

WHY DOES THIS MATTER FOR CHRISTIANS TODAY?

The Passover has morphed and changed throughout history and has lost a lot of it's meaning. The Christian church, in a way, still celebrates Passover every time we take communion! Communion is based on the last supper of Jesus Christ, in which Jesus reveals to his disciples a new meaning to the Passover. As the disciples sat and partook of the celebration Jesus took elements of the Passover and placed the meaning upon Himself and His death. Two of these, the cup and the bread, we partake in to remind us of Jesus' sacrifice on the cross.

For the modern Christian to understand the Passover in its original context gives new light and new meaning to the Last Supper and communion and is an incredible ceremony to be reminded of God's grace, mercy, and kindness...something we can all be reminded of in this time!

WHAT WILL THE PASSOVER CELEBRATION LIVESTREAM LOOK LIKE?

We will start the Livestream on YouTube at 7 PM MT. We will go through the celebration looking at it through three lenses.

  1. The Israelites celebration in light of the First Passover (Exodus)
  2. Jesus and his disciples in light of the Last Supper (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John)
  3. Communion in light of our modern celebration (1 Corinthians)

During this time we will take part in the different elements together and dive into the symbolism of the different elements of the Passover feast. We will also take time to mention scripture that gives us a better understanding of the Lord's Supper and Communion.

HOW CAN I TAKE PART?

7 PM Mountain Time, April 10th, on YouTube: Experience Youth Group YouTube Page

What about the different elements. On Monday, I will be putting out a recipe news update and a video devotional on how to cook/ prepare the different elements for the Passover feast! The cooking video devotional will also be under Pastor Chris' Devotional Series! or you can find it on the YouTube page. I would love for everyone to be able to prepare the elements and take part in the Feast and Celebration together. During the Livestream there will be a time where we will break to eat a meal together (about halfway through the ceremony). As it is important to the ceremony. We will have our camera rolling during that time and will have some worship music playing while we eat our meals together. The whole ceremony can take anywhere from 1.5 hours to 3 hours depending. We hope that you will join us together on Monday to cook some of the elements together and next Friday as we celebrate Passover together!
